Dear Rams, it Should have Been the Saints!

Super Bowl 53: The calm before the storm at Mercedes Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons

Super Bowl 53

RAMS VS PATRIOTS

HaHa! Stirring up the drama before the big game; Super Bowl 53 hosted by the Atlanta Falcons in the big beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It is Friday and it is the calm before the storm.

Well sort of because there really has already been a storm ever since the missed call when the Rams interfered with a pass to the Saints and caused them to lose the game. Now one could argue what might have happened even if they had made the PI call.

NO CALL DRAMA

You know the saying, hindsight is 20/20. Hard to predict the future. Anything could have happened. You can say if the call had been made, then there would have been a penalty and the Saints could have run out the clock and then kicked a winning field goal.

Football craziness and Super Bowl weekend is crankin’ up…

Or you could also say that even if they had called it and the penalty was given, the Rams could have intercepted a pass or the Saints could have gotten a penalty or any other scenario that might cross your mind. Therefore, giving the Rams a win anyway. So there!

While as a Southerner, if the Atlanta Falcons couldn’t be the one playing in our gorgeous (outrageously expensive) new stadium it would have at least been nice to watch another Southern hemisphere team give the Patriots a thumpin’! I feel sure that it would have been their time instead of the ball deflating (read cheating here) Patriots and am I the only one that is sick of Tom Brady?

WHY NOT THE SAINTS?

Get off the stage Patriots! It’s somebody else’s turn! Can somebody in their league kick their ass just once so we don’t have to watch them every year in the Super Bowl? 😀

But I digress! This is really about the bad call that caused the Saints to maybe miss their chance. You saw that everybody, after watching the various videos and playbacks, could see immediately that a no call was the wrong call.

I admit I was not watching the game myself. I saw all this hullabaloo the next day. Why didn’t they see it? Why didn’t they do a review? Why didn’t the Saints coach run out there and bitch and take a chance of getting thrown out of the game? Why?

THE RAMS LOCKER ROOM

Don’t you wish you were a fly on the wall in the Rams locker room after that game?Wonder what they were doing?

Do you think they thought oh hell yeah that was definitely PI and we got away with it. Ooooppps…but we’ll take it. What do you think would have happened if they admitted it at the time to the referees?

Is that a stupid thing to even think about? If deflating balls for an advantage is clearly cheating; is purposely breaking the rules hoping you get away with it cheating as well?

I mean, this ain’t your first rodeo and you do pretty much know the rules. How do you explain getting to go to something like Super Bowl 53 by getting away with cheating, to say… your ten year old who was watching the game with you?

I know….a teaching opportunity. Life is not fair and everything doesn’t happen the way it is supposed to. They might as well learn it early-just pop their little happy fair world balloons and just own up to the facts of life. Better they learn it now!

BUT HEY…I’M NOT BITTER!

So Dear Rams, it should have been the Saints. But I will cheer you on, make all the favorites for my Super Bowl buffet, drink my favorite drinks (most likely Ina Garten’s Cosmopolitans) and hope you kick the Patriots ass in order to prove that you really did deserve to be there…even if it was on a cheat and a missed call OK?

You might be interested in reading other blogs under Just Because and hey, don’t be a stranger! Let me know what you think and what you are doing for the Super Bowl or maybe whatever your beef for the day is OK? Until next time…
