Midnight Moon Cabin Rentals
BIG BEAR LAKE, CA
I was doing a little reconnaissance around Palm Desert to see where I might like to go when visiting my British friend in the future. I came upon the beautiful cabin rentals of Midnight Moon around Big Bear Lake. Located only two hours away from her, I felt like this might be the perfect weekend get away for us to relax and chill out in the mountains together. This post will show you why.
Known as the four-season mountain lake escape Big Bear Lake is located in the heart of Southern California. It is close to Phoenix and Las Vegas and is considered to be the jewel of the San Bernardino National Forest. It is best known for excellent snowboarding and skiing but the fishing, hiking, mountain biking and shopping can be just as much fun off-season.
Designer and entrepreneur, Sarah Salvatore, has completely revamped three idyllic cabins around the area creating high-end luxury rentals that are stylish, modern and family/dog friendly. The cabins are full of great amenities and cool retro touches that provide many opportunities for fun and entertainment while getting in your mountain fix.
DRAMATIC EXTERIORS AND VIEWS
Moondance is a comfortable 950 SF with signature dramatic black exteriors, decks and lots of big windows and views. There is a contemporary firepit with comfy chairs and blankets that make for the perfect spot to have coffee in the morning or wine in the evening while watching the sun go down on the back deck.
A handsome black fireplace creates a cozy spot in the living room to sit on the bench after making a drink from your spiffy bar and putting on an album like Neil Young or Gato Barbieri for a little atmosphere. Another conversation corner seats five comfortably while still being able to enjoy the big views.
Warm wood tones with black painted beams offer sophisticated mountain design and Sarah shows her eye for details when selecting furniture and accessories that are both mid-century modern and the ultimate in comfort for her guests. Blankets, linens and pillows are a luxurious mix of neutral colors and textures contrasted nicely with fun books, games and must have amenities.
Dining is open to the dramatic black kitchen making it easy to maneuver through your meals at home. The main and 2nd bedrooms are spacious with a king and two queen size beds that are just made for sleeping in late before you hit the slopes for the day.
MOUNTAIN MEETS MODERN
Firefly comes in at 955 SF with a king, a queen and two twin beds making it a very family friendly pick. A sleek concrete entrance with nice firepit and seating melds beautifully with an open concept black and white kitchen that overlooks a corner fireplace and comfortable gathering spot. Makes cooking together very easy and the chef feels like a part of the group.
Speaking of that, the chef in you will want to take a look at all the beautiful toys Sarah gives you in her kitchen designs. Large sinks with top of the line faucets, stoves and microwaves. All the cooking essentials necessary with cutting boards, platters and serving bowls. Even your little Fido gets it’s own tray with food and water bowls and a few special treats.
If you just met a couple of friends on the slopes don’t hesitate to ask them to drop by for drinks. Seating at the kitchen bar is perfect for hosting while you fix up a few apps and the big flat screen TV is great for the big game day too.
Who wouldn’t want to hang out in the master with its big comfy bed and private deck for a little you time? Nightstands on both sides create good lighting to finish up that book you have been reading or maybe you’re more in the mood to light a few candles and have a good long soak in the spacious tub in the white and black bathroom. Yes please!
Add in some more of those fun retro details I was talking about before; a huge bean bag for that teen to get a little social time in on the phone or the vintage video games like Donkey Kong that will keep your little ones busy for days and you got yourself about the best in rental properties by far.
PEACE, LOVE & GUITAR
Last but not least, Moonshine comes in at a whopping 1355 SF. This is the party house for six that still gives plenty of private space for everyone. A fun kitchen design pays homage to the great fishing around the lake with its colorful fish scale backsplash. A big table seats six comfortably to eat that catch of the day you just cooked up or to play games like scrabble, clue and candyland.
Literally hang out in the vintage designed hanging chair to get in a little guitar time or play some records in the late evening while sitting around the big corner fireplace. The kids will have a blast making s’mores before they head off to bed in the fun bunkhouse bedroom.
You might enjoy flipping through a book like Cabin Porn before you fall asleep in your main bedroom with a beautiful photograph mural of a misty mountain scene as a headboard wall. These are not your grandma’s cabins at the lake my friends. This is what relaxing in the mountains should be all about; well planned spaces meant for gathering, luxury in every detail and fun things to do with family and friends.
CONCLUSION
The cabins were thoughtful purchases by Sarah and her musician husband Troy MacCubbin. They began their dream business in 2018 with the first property. All are situated to offer easy access to Bear Lake Village for restaurants, bars and shopping and two family friendly ski slopes.
Oktoberfest is ongoing right now through the first week of November. Halloween activities are always fun for the kids and the new zoo is a must do for the family. Sarah has crafted a very special experience for you, the guest.
