Locked up Creatively?
SOME TIPS ON WHAT CAN HELP
Don’t get me wrong. I have always been creative but a series of bad job picks had me wondering just what I was doing wrong and how I could shake things up. You ever felt that way? I think a lot of creative people have.
When I think back to even my youngest years I can remember asking my parents if I could repaint my bedroom and I was always moving furniture around like a little designer. 🎨
I took piano lessons for around seven years or so and then got a guitar for Christmas and started teaching myself to play. I took ballet, tap and tumbling from a lady named Ms. Rollins. I still remember the joy of finally getting my first pair of pointe shoes and dancing to the Nutcracker Suite.
Then there were the various talent competitions, plays and pageants where a dance piece needed to be choreographed, plays penned or musical pieces written. Add a stint in fashion, a degree in interior design and an art gallery and you start to get a picture of how many different creative pies I have had my fingers in over the years.
ENFP PERSONALITY
Fast forward. As you know from previous blogs, (if not, you might want to read this one and maybe this one too) I am an ENFP personality and I made a few bad choices. Some were in more creative areas and some were not. I decided I needed to give real thought to what I was going to do next rather than just take anything offered. Sound familiar?
I knew it needed to be something creative and fun. In doing some research for a friend on social media I came across an article written by a woman that I was inspired by. In the article she mentioned a book called The Artist’s Way Julia Cameron and how it had changed her life and the way she wrote in particular. She recommended it as a good read for anyone looking to get their creative on or back on as it were. 😊
MORNING PAGES
I highly recommend this book too; it is a game changer. It is full of written exercises for you to complete that starts with what she calls morning pages.
No matter what, you sit down every morning and write three pages in long hand! No google machines please! I can’t begin to tell you how helpful this first step was. It got me thinking creatively about what to write, how I felt, what I wanted to do and where to go next.
Next thing I knew, I was back on the piano every day trying to learn a newer jazzier style of playing than the more rigid way I was taught growing up. I actually starting putting together a book of songs I knew by memory. Why? Because now I know I can use this talent and work for myself and get paid!
Morning pages got me working on strategic ideas of things I liked to do and could do that would allow me to work for myself again and guess what? Say it with me….get paid to do it!
That is how this blog was born. I knuckled down and started doing my research. I began to pull pictures I liked from magazines. After thirty or so….I moved them around a board and a brand was born.
A BRAND IS BORN
I found my colors, my fonts and my look on that board. Morning pages gave me my blogging categories in art, food & travel. I started social media, designed a logo, picked out a platform and theme and started writing.
So far, two posts a week. I am working on finding my best voice in order to interest my readers and give them good value and quality of content. I am looking at what other bloggers are doing and learning new things every day.
CONCLUSION
You can do this too! You got this! 👌 Get this book and start your morning pages. It is really beginning a journey; if you have been creative and need a kick start, your stuck and need a push, or even if you never thought you were creative at all this book will help you find your groove. It will help you unlock your creative vibe and push through to success.
When you start the work your attitude changes and when that changes opportunity seems to come as easily as opening a door. No really! I’m serious!
Opportunity comes knocking in ways you never thought it would and things come together in such a way you wonder why you didn’t do this before. If you like what you read, you might want to read some more blogs under Just Because. Hey, don’t be a stranger! Let me hear how things go for you and what your struggles and lessons learned have been OK? Until next time…
Cheers,
