5 REASONS TO VISIT
Our recent trip to Ireland took us to many places; none as charming and interesting as Adare. Walkable with interesting shops, restaurants and bars to hop into this post will give you my 5 best reasons not to miss it!
REASON NUMBER 1
Number one has got to be the art and architecture in this little village, renowned as one of the prettiest in Ireland. I would live there in a heartbeat.
Designated as a heritage town by the Irish government, most of the homes are traditional in design and many include the thatched roofs of olden days. The one above was recently remodeled after fire caused major damage.
They are all brightly colored, super tidy and clean with all manner of hanging pots and planters of beautiful flowers. Criss cross up and down main street and the side streets and you won’t come up with one ugly house. Even most of the shops have storefronts that look like cute little tiny homes!
REASON NUMBER 2
Located in the heart of the area is Adare Village Park; one of the nicest in-town parks I think I have ever been in. Lots of walking paths with little fairy nooks and stop offs to sit and contemplate in the quiet creating a lovely verdant well kept gem.
There are water features (The Washing Pool) and flowers as well as a thatched roof gazebo that creates a lively entertainment area or a beautiful background for the many weddings that take place locally each year. The property was originally a part of the massive Dunraven estate.
REASON NUMBER 3
The fact that the only art gallery in Limerick County is in Adare made a huge difference for me as well. Draiocht (magical place) gallery sits off the main road by just a block. They offer a mixture of paintings, photography, sculpture and gift items.
Andrew and Agnes (two of three partners) are delightful, funny people with big personalities and lots of knowledge about the local art scene. I bought a photograph and several gift items for friends. I also wrote a blog about the gallery and the artists they carry. Don’t miss this place!
REASON NUMBER 4
Aisling Maher is around the corner and just up the street. It is a wonderful little millinery shop where she creates her own stunning line of hats, fascinators and fashion accessories. Her shop was very busy the day I was in with both locals and tourists looking to pick up the latest styles.
I chatted a bit with Aisling and was surprised to learn that her background was in architecture. Than I started studying her pieces and realized that there was a certain artistic architecture in her designs; layered details and interesting textures and materials. You can read the blog about her stunning designs under Artful Ideal.
REASON NUMBER 5
Last but not least is the food in Adare. We had a really big choice of nice places to stop into between restaurants and pubs. We happened across the Blue Door after walking around the Village Park. It was only a few doors away.
It was just starting a bit of rain and was chilly so we were happy to get inside and be seated in the front room at the fireplace under the small staircase creating a cozy little nook. We decided that it was a day for traditional Irish food and drink and ordered Guinness beer and a large meat pie with chips (french fries) for sharing. Great idea! Fantastic flavor and tender meat with a lovely veg on the side.
CONCLUSION
