Don’t let Money Woes Get you Down

TREAT YOURSELF EVERY DAY

We all need to treat ourselves well, but unfortunately, our budgets often say this goal is out of reach.

Spoiler alert: It's not! There are plenty of ways to take care of yourself so that you look and feel fabulous. Even if you plan to stay close to home until the pandemic is finally over, how you treat yourself now will go a long way toward improving your overall health.

This short post will give you just a few ideas on how to take of yourself right now.

IT’S ALL ABOUT BALANCE

When you are having to weigh your finances with self-care, balance is key. You may also have to do a bit of creative juggling.

Let’s take drinking as an example. You know that alcohol is terrible for you, but you enjoy socialization. Instead of whipping up your favorite adult beverage, create a mock-tail. Artsy Chow Roamer has looked at non-alcoholic options before and explains that you can get anything from beer to wine without the morning-after hangover.

Nonalcoholic beverages typically don’t cost any more than traditional imbibements, and you won’t have to pay for ibuprofen or hair of the dog the next day.

You can apply this mentality to all of your favorite activities. A couple of other examples are to visit museums online, set up a movie projector in your living room, or install an above-ground pool instead of taking expensive vacations.

In all of these instances, you get a similar experience without putting yourself at-risk or overspending.

ADD EXERCISE

Exercise is something we can all do to feel better each day. Although it’s often difficult to get motivated, there are a few ways to trick yourself into lacing up your sneakers.

One of these is to go ahead and foot the bill for some new athletic apparel. Even if you prefer pricier brands, you can find Nike, Champion, and  Lululemon coupons on the internet to help you save on workout clothing and shoes.

Not sure how to exercise? Start by going the scenic route. In other words, take a hike. Hiking in the United States doesn’t even have to mean leaving your hometown. There are thousands of  trails throughout the country and even the best ones are usually not far away.

Rather stay indoors? That’s okay, too. If you prefer to socially distance yourself at home, you can get a great workout by cleaning house, playing active video games, or creating your own home gym.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

As cliché as it may sound, you really are what you eat. The food you put into your body fuels each cell and each bodily process.

Since you’re already staying inside most of the time, plan to utilize your space in the kitchen. Stock your pantry and refrigerator with healthy options, and get creative.

Plan a meatless Monday themed dinner night or let each member of your family pick a healthy meal one night each week. Whatever you do, keep dinnertime interesting and healthy.

Eating at home should be healthy and is a lot less expensive then eating out

While you are at it, spend some time clearing out bad-for-you foods. For the most part, anything that comes in a box or isn’t recognizable from its natural form should be purged from your home.

If you’re thinking that it’s too expensive to cook healthfully, think again. A simple dinner of beef tacos might cost around $2.71 at home and nearly $20 out. You can still enjoy the experience by inviting friends over or cooking together via Zoom or Facebook Messenger.

CONCLUSION

Being good to yourself doesn’t have to completely blow your budget. Simple actions, such as finding alternatives to unhealthy vices, exercising, and prioritizing your diet, will go a long way toward helping you look and feel your best.

In an age where stress and anxiety are at an all-time high, you can’t afford not to put yourself first for once.

A MESSAGE FROM ARTSY:

If you liked what you read, you might also enjoy other blog posts under Guest Bloggers and Just Because on my website. I have learned a lot of lessons during this pandemic. Part of that is taking care of yourself as well as others in your family and friends circle.

Treating yourself sometimes even if it means spending money can be a good investment in you and your future. I’m not good at being stoic during stressful times. I wrote a couple of blogs about these quarantine times that addresses both that and the need for laughter.

Laughter is the best medicine after all. Pick some things to do that really make you laugh out loud! Whether it’s books, podcasts, movies or You Tube; get your laugh on and stay healthy. Enjoy the video below which will give you some more budget friendly self care ideas too.

Look for my next blog post on fun things to do in Gainesville, Georgia. Until then…
