Thai Defined in Just 5 Words!
The Atlanta Restaurant Scene
TUK TUK THAI FOOD LOFT
It’s lunchtime and your thinking you want something ethnic and yummy with a little kick. Tuk Tuk pops into your head (or not) and you would be right! Because hands down Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft is the best Atlanta has to offer!
Certainly this was not our first visit. We used to live in the “Sobuck” (read South Buckhead here) area and used to walk to the restaurant for dinner a lot. We also loved the outdoor skyline deck for drinks on a beautiful clear evening with a great view.
But sometimes restaurants that enjoy a certain following and traffic aren’t always able to keep it up. They get fat and happy. So since we hadn’t been in awhile we decided to slide by and check them out for lunch.
TUK TUK BUSY AT LUNCH TIME
The restaurant was busy with a good buzzing lunch crowd; a great first sign. We opt to sit at the bar which has the great skyline view as well as the outdoor deck. We ordered a glass of wine and looked over the menu as well as the specials chalk board.
I was immediately joyful to see that Chicken Massaman was one of the featured dishes in the days lunch box. I LOVE Massaman; it is so rich and mild with peanut and potato goodness and they do it very well here.
The box concept is a favorite of the lunch crowd as well. It comes in a stacked set of round metal dishes that the server unclamps and places all in front of you with a flourish; a bowl of the soup on the special board, a bowl of sticky (read extra good here) rice and a bowl each of the two featured dishes.
I ordered the lunch box and my husband who is a liver lover (say that three times fast) of any kind ordered the grilled chicken liver skewers which is an appetizer but comes with a nifty cute little basket of sticky rice goodness that makes it a filling dish for a lighter eater.
LUNCH MENU STILL GREAT AT THAI FOOD LOFT
Our dishes arrived and I snapped a few pics before we plowed into them. We like to share and these two dishes did not disappoint. The soup was good-my only criticism would be a more flavorful broth. The Massaman was as always; rich, peanuty and the hit of the day for me.
The second dish of the box was a beef dish and was good although not as big a hit as the chicken. The grilled liver dish was heaven on a plate. If you like liver, this is really the way it ought to be served under any circumstances. I grew up eating it a lot and this beats the heck out of the boiled number my Mom used to do with rice and cream of chicken soup over it (I love you anyway Mom)!
5 WORDS DEFINING THAI IN ATLANTA
As I said, we had not been to the restaurant in recent months. It just popped into our heads as we were gypsy roaming down Peachtree Street in Atlanta. People ask me all the time what my favorite restaurants are in the city and this one has always been on the list. Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft is the only place you need to know when it comes to Thai food.
They may be fat and happy but they are also still serving up excellent love on a plate! You might want to read a few more posts under Edible Fare on my blog. Hey, don’t be a stranger! Let me know if you like Thai food and what you think about this restaurant. You can also give me some feedback on what you might like to read about in the future. Until next time…
