CONFESSIONS OF A WANNABE
I was scrolling on Instagram the other day and came across a speech written for a graduating class at Emory University by Yu-Kai Lin of Kai Lin Art.
It gave me pause because it gave explicit advice to a younger generation of kids regarding a way of seeing and being in what is becoming an increasingly more complicated world to conquer.
I was going to write on a different subject today but I found I was so inspired by what he told them to do in only 157 words that I changed my mind and decided to write about this instead.

BEING A CREATIVE
I know right? I immediately commented on his Instagram post that I was going to type it up and put it on my visual board because it was just that inspiring and really such fan-damn-tastic good advice (no matter what your age)!
But particularly so for this new group of kids coming up. This one will have pretty much been raised with a good portion of their time spent on social media, their google machines and their iphones that are permanently attached to their heads like accessories!
They will be the first group that have pictures of their lives posted on all kinds of internet sites which will be there forever. What they decide to do and how they present themselves as a brand will affect where they work or if they even get the job to begin with.
As I said even I was inspired by his speech because it applied to what I am doing right now. That is the work of creating something new that I knew very little about when I began the journey but I believed in just the same.
Oh, I knew how to write from school but free-lance writing is different and blogging even more different from that. Finding your voice to make it show you to your readers in a way that makes them want to come back is harder than you would think.
Connecting, networking, seizing every opportunity to create, learn and grow is what it’s really all about. It takes hustle, it takes hard work, it takes dedication and it takes love. The love of what you are doing and what you are passionate about.
The hard bits are even harder; being flexible, driven, showing up every day in every way, leaving no stones unturned. Allowing for chance and serendipity rather than sticking to your best laid plans; well if I wasn’t an ENFP personality type that might be a lot harder than for most.

WHAT ARE THE TAKE AWAYS?
I think I have found what I love and am passionate about; writing and blogging on art, food and travel. Have you? I am working it every day and am letting my curiosity lead me to new opportunities. How ‘bout you?
I am trying to be more flexible and am trying a lot of new things. I am showing up, networking and talking to people to make new connections. I believe in what I am doing even if others don’t understand it or support it. Don’t be afraid to do the same!
I am joining and I have a social media presence on four different platforms now. Who knew??? I am mindful about how I present myself there; I am not argumentative or political for the most part. I have started with where I am and am reaching out to who I know for mentoring, guidance and help. You can too!
I am looking for my tribe and want to expand it and build it into a community of people who want to share, learn and have fun. I am a rule breaker and will make my own as I go and above all, I want to be kind and have others be kind in return. So simple a concept and yet seems to be entirely forgotten these days.
Sound good to you? Are you a Creative? Do you want to be and don’t know how to be one? I think you have all the advice you need to wannabe. I confess; I wannabe. I also want you in my tribe. I want you to help me build the community we both want.
I hope you were inspired by this post and the words of Yu-Kai. If you liked what you read, you might also want to read some other inspirational and educational posts and hey, don’t be a stranger. Let me hear what you thought about the advice. Until next time…
Cheers,
